My dream, when I started this project in 1981 was to place my books into the hands of as many young readers, teachers, and parents as possible with a message that non-violent books have a place in the world. To read and get pleasure from reading is one of the most important lessons every child must learn. This is why our books are free. Enjoy the books and share this site with all of your friends. Please E-mail me and let me know what you think. These letters are very important to me and make me feel like the thousands of hours I have put in were worth it. |
“Books for people who believe that kindness can change a child’s life.” Dear Readers, Imagine a world where there are no mad scientists, nuclear weapons, self-serving politicians, sexual abuse, dysfunctional families, fools on talk shows and parking meters that only give a minute for a dollar. A place where parents listen to their children when a problem arises; where the terrors of the night are turned into a soft warm refuge by the knowledge that there “really isn’t anything monstrous under the bed.” A place where values and ethics exist without having to point them out. A place where learning is fun but difficult enough to present a challenge to an active imagination; where you can ask a “dumb” question and be respected for having the guts to ask. This is the world of the “Little Squirts Books for Children.” The world of Little Squirts is a neighborhood where children of all ages, yes, even adults who refuse to grow up, can come to find a friend. It’s a refuge when the rest of the world is making little sense. It’s a gentle sanctuary that dreams are made of; where girls and boys are friends, but not rivals, and parents and grandparents are seen as companions who are just a little bigger and smarter, to be respected, but not out of fear. This may sound like the ideal world; but what is wrong with a little fantasy that does not create a desire in a child to see violence first-hand? (And even worse…. try it out on a brother or sister.) I have spent the last twenty-seven years creating and developing this series of seventeen books. My number one goal is to reach as many children as possible with the message that there is good in the world and plenty enough to go around. My books were purposely written to be gentle, kind and absolutely non-violent; entertaining, without any reference to race, religion, or political persuasions, with the fond hope that this example of kindness will rub off on future generations of young people who believe in these principals, not because they are forced to, but because it is right. It has been my dream to do everything in my power to make Little Squirts shine a clear bright light. And best of all…… they are free to any child who wants them. –Mark Griffin, Owner, Little Squirts Publishing |
