Our Story Continues.....

Well, you know Bizby.  He’s not afraid of
anybody.  He flew right up to the door
and hollered, “Hey, Is anybody home?”
Apparently nobody had ever had the nerve
to just walk right up to his door before.
This scared the poor old Speelock half out
of his wits.
“Who’s there?” he growled, in the meanest
voice you ever heard.
“Just a couple of weary travelers,” I told
him.
“What do you want?”  I’m busy,” said the
old Speelock.
“We just thought you might like some
company,” said Bizby.
“Well, don’t just stand out there in the
cold, come on in,” he said, much to our
surprise.

Even though I didn’t believe in
magic, I’ve got to admit I was
getting a little nervous not
knowing what to expect.  The
whole inside of the old Speelock’s
house was just like the inside of a
spaceship.
“Can you two keep a secret?” he
asked.
“You bet!” we both said in
harmony.

The old Speelock proceeded to
tell us his story…

He had been on a goodwill mission
for the Interplantetary Air
Force when suddenly a black hole
threw his ship off course.  By the
time they got it straightened out
they were out of fuel.

They had been drifting for quiet
awhile when they heard pretty
music coming across the
emergency channel.  They zeroed
in on it but crashed before they
could tell exactly where it was
coming from.
I was amazed because this very
same thing had happened to us
just three years before.
Luckily no one was hurt in the
crash.  His crew of seven all left
in different directions.  Every
once in awhile one of them would
come back to visit, but as the
years went by, they came less
and less.  The captain was feeling
pretty lonesome.

The people in the town didn’t
quite know what to make of him
and weren’t very friendly.  So in
order to protect himself, he
became the “Old Speelock.”
The ships’ robot built his house
out of rocks.  He has lived there
ever since.  He had plenty of
food from the ship and a garden
in his backyard.  He was really
quite comfortable.  He just didn’t
have any friends.
